New Course

Wow, it's been a long while since I sat in front of our family pc, trying to write about something worthy enough to post in my blog. Now it's almost forgotten. Andaming nangyari nitong taon. Some were great moments, others were just okay, and then there were times that I wished had never happened at all.

I've lost contact with a bunch of people in college -- not to mention my Tromapips -- but I also gained good friends from the workplace. FedEx (dotcom and even cafe) is such a small account. And now I'm saying bye-bye to it come end of September. Magre-resign na ako. But that's okay. Mawawala na rin naman na ang account sa Pilipinas very, very soon. My teammates will be switching to another account within Harte-Hanks and that's good for them. Meanwhile, I'll be reviewing for THE exam this December. Once in a while, during calls, I thought about wanting to go back to college once more. Like that line by Princeton in that Avenue Q song, life was so simpler back then. Indeed. Sa school, may allowance, at walang tax na binabayaran. Sigh, had I known the bliss of being a student while I was still a student.

FedEx is having a party at El Pueblo tonight. And I'm not going. I just don't feel like going. I think I'd be more useful at home, cleaning my room, washing dishes, and doing my own laundry.

Speaking of laundry. A few months ago, my family had just put up a laundry shop in Moonwalk, Paranaque, just a five-minute walk from our house. It's peaks and valleys, but still the business is doing great. Ironically, I still get to do my own laundry at home every weekend. Plus I think I already got the hang of using the new washing machine at the back of the house.

Today is bestfriend Jay's birthday. But I'll always remember your birthday.

There are a bunch of things that I've learned from my work as a call center agent. Surprisingly, I realized that my English wasn't as good as I thought it was. I process my thoughts very slowly, just like the dial-up connections that most of my American callers are using. I realized that I don't want to be married to an American. I have my own reasons for that. And as luck would have it, I have lost more enthusiasm in English. Nakakawalang gana na ang magsalita ng English. Parang gusto ko nang mag-Taglish. Nabobobo na ako sa English ko. Nauseous ako lagi pagkatapos ng calls. At pag nasa alpha stage palang ako ng tulog, may naririnig muna akong overlapping conversations na American accent. Damn, it's really haunting.

After more than three years of (intermittent) blogging, I've decided to find a new course for my pedestrian writing. And that is to resort to pen and paper. Like a good ol' diary, although it should be more of a creative journal. Why? Wala lang. Siguro kasi I failed to keep a diary while I was still a kid. Gusto kong ma-experience ulit 'yun. Payout ko lang a few days ago. I still have to look for that perfect notebook so that I can always carry it with me. Sorry, 'di ko afford ang laptop. =] I will still keep this blog active since there's absolutely no point in deleting personal accounts.

Thank you for visiting this site. See you soon.

Buti Tapus Nang Ma-QA

Somewhere under the fissures of my brain, I would hear Americans talking... in various overlapping accents. And then I would hear my voice, instructing them to press this button, or delete popup blockers, or go to the next screen. WAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!! Araw-araw 'yan.

* * *
By the way, I had a blooper while having calls last night.

My customer wanted to register for a login in fedex.com.
I walked her through on how to get to the registration screen.
And then told her that I'll just be on the other line while I wait for her to finish filling out the form.
She said okay. And then started typing away.

Meanwhile, I sensed that the dotcom floor was getting stinkier by the minute. I turned to my teammate on my left who was currently not taking calls and said,

"Parang ang baho. Amoy tae."

She said, "Oo nga e. Trish, kanina pa tayo dito sa floor." And then she gave a teasing look at my teammate on my right.

Maya-maya, napatingin lahat sakin nung napasigaw akong: "Ay shet! 'Di ako naka-mute!"

Buti nalang tapus na 'ko ma-audit at walang imik 'yung caller ko.

Share ko lang.

Hula In The Glass Ball

The prophecy is that I'm ready for the magical thrill tomorrow. Let's just say that I've reserved a seat for the opening of Order of the Phoenix in IMAX at 11a. My shift ends at 7a, what a way to start my Wednesday.

Oh, by the way, I got certified as an agent on the DotCom floor by my TC just last Friday. The experience was grueling, and emotionally disturbing. There used to be 11 of us in the team. But they all got certified a month ago by the clients in Austin except me and another teammate. You just couldn't get close to the idea of how devastating that was. Hahahahahahahahaha. After certification, I was finally told by my TC that I've been consistent with my QA scores. Let's just say that out of 10 audits that I've been getting a week, I usually get a perfect score on 5-6 of them, the rest are close to that range, of course. But it was because of practice and gradual learning from mistakes that I was able to achieve them. Man, I used to have failing QA's a few months ago. Sobrang nakakahiya, I used to have -100%. Hahahahahaha.

Got to go. Work ulit.

Awooooooooo!!!

Alay Sa Real World

I finally had my contract signing at 'Hamburger' Solutions last night.

* * *

A few days ago, after being accepted in Amber, I decided to apply for work once more at some call cen'er in RCBC Plaza (cooool building!). I heard this company pays their employees A LOT. The application went well, in fact the in'erviewer asked me if I could work for them as soon as possible, like, in a couple of days. I said okay.

However, I didn't show up at my scheduled second in'erview with them yesterday morning. I read in a forum that you'll be working 11 hours a day for five days with only 30 minutes to play. That's like worse than my MaSci days. At least kami may 1 hour to play. Hehe. I met my two friends from college -- G1 and Francis -- who are already on their training there.

* * *

After my contract signing, I met a couple of friends --already working at Amber-- at the cafe lounge, Tris and Rex. This is great, I could hang out with them during vacant hours.

I start my training on the 26th, Thursday. The HR will call to inform me of my schedule and room. Gudlak sakin. Meanwhile, I think I'll just have to savor the joy of having high-speed internet at home. Sarap ng may cable. It's been almost three months. Gone were the days when I constantly lose my patience downloading vid clips and mp3's through dial-up networks.
